Magnificat is a ministry for Catholic women. Magnificat assists Catholic women in all walks of life on their path to holiness through encouraging a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus our Lord, and an openness to the Holy Spirit in their everyday lives. Realizing the uniqueness of their "feminine genius", Magnificat women strive to impart the Holy Spirit to those in their lives through love, service and sharing of the Gospel.
Magnificat (pronounced Mag-níf-e-cot) is the verb in the Latin phrase, "Magnificat anima mea Dominum", "My soul magnifies the Lord." These words recorded in Luke 1:46; begin Mary's response to Elizabeth's joyful greeting: "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the Fruit of your womb." The entire scene of the Visitation is the inspiration for this ministry, which adopts the name of Mary's Hymn of Praise and the spirit of this biblical encounter as its own. Following the example of Mary and Elizabeth, this woman-to-woman ministry within the Catholic Church attempts to generate a lively faith in God and the action of the Holy Spirit in our lives along with a love for our Blessed Mother Mary as the First Tabernacle of our Lord, and Holy Mother Church.
The Mission of the Magnificat® Ministry is to assist Catholic women on their path to holiness through encouraging a deeper commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ. Living out the Mystery of the Visitation, the Magnificat® mission is to impart the Holy Spirit through love, service and the sharing of the Gospel. This is done primarily through the sharing of the Magnificat Meal, the essential function of Magnificat. |
